2024 ISWAN Conference

Intramuros Manila became the hoot for the International Seafarer’s Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN). The 1-day conference is focused on improving the welfare of seafarers and preparing them for the transitions towards a decarbonized shipping industry.

Scorpio Shipping, through its Philippine conglomerate, 88 Aces Maritime Services, Inc., pledged its support as a Silver sponsor of the event. Among the delegates, were Optimum Company Representative, Capt. loanis Anysis; 88 Aces President, Capt. Crisando Blas; 88 Aces Crew Welfare Manager, Angelyn Alabastro; and Psychologist, Richthofen De Jesus.

The distinguished Plenary Speakers included Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) administrator, Ma. Sonia Malaluan, and Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary, Sec. Hans Leo Cacdac, who both discussed the pivotal role of a STEM Government policy to strengthen an already robust Seafaring Industry, which is a major contributor of the Philippines’ thriving economy.

Sec. Cacdac also added the exceptional value of welfare services offered by maritime agencies, in helping ensure the holistic care provided to the seafarer and the families that they leave in the country.
